Reddit starts crashing as subreddit blackout keeps growing

Reddit is experiencing some issues for many on Monday, with the outage happening the same day as thousands of subreddits going dark to protest the site’s new API pricing terms. For many Verge staffers, Reddit.com isn’t loading, but individual subreddits will. There are around 38,000 user reports of issues on Downdetector. As of this writing, Reddit’s status page is not showing any issues.

Reddit didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. A site that had been tracking the number of subreddits to have gone private in protest also appears to be broken as a result of the outage.
